What is SGTC 2 ?
StarGate Total Conversion 2 (SGTC 2) is a modification (also called a "mod") for the First Person Shooter game Half-Life 2. This modification theme is the Stargate world (mainly about the SG1 show before the 9th season).

What is a mod ?
A mod is a game created by modifying an already existing game. The modifications can be applied to the weapons, the characters, the maps, the game code etc. SGTC 2 plans on replacing every weapon and character of Half-Life 2 and intends to create whole new maps with the Stargate atmosphere. The sounds and a part of the code will be replaced. SGTC 2 should thus look like a game entirely dedicated to the Stargate world.

Is it an official game ?
No. The only official game currently under development is the Stargate-Worlds MMORPG.

Is SGTC 2 free ?
Yes. SGTC 2 is developed by Stargate fans for Stargate fans. We just hope you will get as much pleasure playing this game as we had making it.

Is SGTC2 a singleplayer mod, a multiplayer mod or both ?
SGTC2 will first be a multiplayer mod. A solo or coop mode could show up later.

What is needed to be able to play SGTC2 ?
The Source SDK Base will be required to play SGTC2. This game engine is provided on Steam with the purchase of some games exploiting it. The list of games providing the Source SDK Base with their purchase can be found here. If you have bought one of these games, open the main Steam panel and look for the Tools tab. There you can download the Source SDK Base.

Is HL2: Episode 1 required ?
No. Episode 1 is not required.

Is SGTC2 available for the public ?
Not yet. The mod will be available to the public in beta version or final version when its developement status will be satisfying. The mod devteam objective is to release a public playable version of the mod before or during the summer vacation but no guarantee is given.

Will it be available in beta version or final version ?
(subquestion: what does distinguish a beta version from a final version ?
) The mod will very likely first released as a beta version in order to find the last bugs and to balance weapons and map game modes. No certitude for now. A beta version includes all game components which are planned to be in the final version. The beta version is not necessarily free from bugs and doesn't necessarily have a perfectly balanced gaemplay.

Do you recruit beta testers ?
There is for the moment no need for beta-testers as all positions are occupied. However, short term announcements can de made on the forum, go check it out.


SGTC2 and the Stargate world

Does SGTC 2 get its inspiration from the SG1 show, the SGA show or both ?
SGTC2 will first get its inspiration from the SG1 show before the 9th season: the war against Goa'ulds remains the first modding topic of SGTC2, just like SGTC, the old HL 1 mod. Adding technologies, weapons and characters from Altantis or from the Ori war is not rejected a priori but, if this add is decided, it will be applied in future versions of SGTC2.

Does SGTC 2 settle in a specific period of the show ?
For the moment, SGTC2 focuses on the theme of the strife between Tauris versus Goa'ulds, more specifically around seasons 7 and 8 (Earth space ships such as the Prometheus and the Daedalus will appear in the mod)

Will I see known characters from the show?
If so, which ones ?
Yes. O'Neill, Teal'C, Carter and Jackson are already modelled. See this news for instance.

Will I be able to play Oris, Reetoos, Wraiths... ?
Not in the first public versions of SGTC2.

What kind of Goa'uld guard will be implemented (Anubis guards, Horus guards, Apophis guards...) ?
Anubis guards (jackal guards), Apophis guards (snake guards), generic Jaffas and Horus guards (falcon guards) are already implemented and fully functional.

About technologies, will earthlings use Asgard teleportations, space ships such as the Prometheus or the X-303 ?
All these features will be added on the maps depending on the mapper choices, whether these mappers are official or not.

Will I get to step through the Stargate ?
Sure!

Will it be possible to send bullets or grenades through the Gate ?
Yes. Any object will go through the gate and will come out of it as shown in the series.

As the Source engine allows to move most of the small sized objects, will it be possible to send these objects through the Gate ?
Any throwed object will go through the gate and come out of the dialed gate, even if toilet seats are not meant to be handed or manipulated in SGTC2...

Will the hyperspace vortex be seen as in the show ?
No. The vortex was introduced in the show to indicate to the watchers a travel between two planets. It is said during the episodes that the travel is instantaneous: travelers don't see the vortex that the TV watchers can see. This principle will be applied in SGTC 2.

Will there be vehicles ?
Introducing vehicles is considered for future SGTC 2 versions.

What kind of vehicles will there be in SGTC2 ?
No certitude for the moment on this matter. To be followed

Will some vehicles fly ?
Some vehicles might be flying. Following subquestions assume the hypothesis that flying vehicles will indeed be implemented.

Will I get to fly one of this flying vehicles ?
You will get to pilot small sized flying vehicles as well as ground vehicles if there are some and if the map is designed for vehicle use.

What about massive ships like the Daedalus and the Prometheus ?
These ships should be visible on some maps but as the maps size on the Source Engine (physics engine of Half-Life 2) is not sufficient, you won't be able to make them move.

Will there be space combats ?
No certitude about that, to be followed.

What will the gameplay be like ?
The gameplay (everything about the game rules during a match) of SGTC 2 is being designed at the moment by the devteam.

Will everybody be able to take a known character such as Jack O'Neill?
On SGTC, one could sometimes see 4 or 5 O'Neill on a same server, will there be the same situations on SGTC2 ?
For now, every player selects the character he/she wants.

Will there be a system where each player class has its own skills ?
Each player class is equiped with a different weapon pack and has its ownspeed and resistance characteristics.

Will the chosen character be bound to a particular class or will a common soldier be able to choose his/her class ?
Each character is a full class with its specific characterstics.

What weapons will be included in SGTC2 ?
For Tauris (earthlings):

   Knife
   Beretta
   MP5
   FN P90
   HE Grenade
   TER
   M90/PSG1
   Medkit
   Flashbang grenade
   Smoke grenade

For Goa'ulds:

   Coujaf (Goa'uld version of the knife)
   Zat'nik'tel
   Staff weapon
   TER
   Zatarc weapon
   Hand device
   TAC
   G.A.C.

Will there be a radio system between players ?
The radio system is already implemented in Half-Life 2 but we will adapt the voices to the Stargate voices.

If so, will we get to shout exclamations coming from the show with actors voices?
("Jaffas, Kree!" or "Dial the gate!") ?
The Goa'uld orders are a must have and therefore they will be implemented in the mod if the radio system is OK. The Tau'ri orders should be shout in English but there is no certitude for the moment.
